The meeting outside
At first Jasper readily accepts the presence of a new visitor on the neutral turf outside in the back yard. It's a nose to butt sniff fest as each dog chases the other, resulting in a rather odd circular dance. It seemed a contest as to who would first receive their fill of olfactory evidence, it was Jasper broke out of step allowing Mac to continue to investigate his new surroundings. An uneasy calm fills the air, as Jasper is unsure what to make of the new visitor.
The meet & greet inside
We take Jasper in the house first, next we introduce Mac to his new home, where Jasper immediately greets his new found visitor with a measured dose of territorial defense at the garage back hallway. With a firm and forceful bark, Jasper establishes the line is the sand "this is my turf" as long as you understand that you may proceed, Mac complies. We take Mac and place him in his crate in the washroom, after a couple of hours we let Mac out of his crate, but he remains confined to the washroom so that Jasper's domicile dominance is preserved, and so Jasper can continue his evaluation of the new visitor.
The each family member takes turns on the floor with Jasper reassuring him everything is o.k., and that he's still our number one dog.
Jasper extends a tenuous and temporary acceptance of the new visitor, "I guess you can stay, as long as it's just for one night. Then I want your tail out of here, checkout time is noon tomorrow".

By the end of the evening
Everyone is ready to bring the evening to a close I snapped the evenings last picture, where Mac seems a little homesick. We place a small nightlight in his room, an fm radio is turned low tuned to soft rock, we pull the blanket & chew toys (infused with the scent of his previous litter mates) out of the plastic bag and place them in his kennel. He curls up and prepares to sleep... As we turn off all the lights and leave that side of the house, he realizes he's alone and howls for the next 1/2 hour before giving up and falling asleep.
