How do my ears look?

Sandy --

Cindy has diligently treated his ears each morning and evening with first aid cream. Mac's ears have been "down" since we picked him up at your place until this evening.   Cindy asked me to email these pictures to you, to ensure she "got it right".

MAC COMES HOME ! or WHO the !@#$#% is THIS?

The meeting outside
At first Jasper readily accepts the presence of a new visitor on the neutral turf outside in the back yard.  It's a nose to butt sniff fest as each dog chases the other, resulting in a rather odd circular dance.  It seemed a contest as to who would first receive their fill of olfactory evidence, it was Jasper broke out of step allowing Mac to continue to investigate his new surroundings.  An uneasy calm fills the air, as Jasper is unsure what to make of the new visitor.

The meet & greet inside

We take Jasper in the house first, next we introduce Mac to his new home, where Jasper immediately greets his new found visitor with a measured dose of territorial defense at the garage back hallway.  With a firm and forceful bark, Jasper establishes the line is the sand "this is my turf" as long as you  understand that you may proceed,  Mac complies.  We take Mac and place him in his crate in the washroom, after a couple of hours we let Mac out of his crate, but he remains confined to the washroom so that Jasper's domicile dominance is preserved, and so Jasper can continue his evaluation of the new visitor.
The each family member takes turns on the floor with Jasper reassuring him everything is o.k., and that he's still our number one dog.

Jasper extends a tenuous and temporary acceptance of the new visitor, "I guess you can stay, as long as it's just for one night. Then I want your tail out of here, checkout time is noon tomorrow".

By the end of the evening
Everyone is ready to bring the evening to a close I snapped  the evenings last picture, where Mac seems a little homesick.  We place a small nightlight in his room, an  fm radio is turned low tuned to soft rock, we pull the blanket & chew toys (infused with the scent of his previous litter mates) out of the plastic bag and place them in his kennel.  He curls up and prepares to sleep... As we turn off all the lights and leave that side of the house, he realizes he's alone and howls for the next 1/2 hour before giving up and falling asleep.

Puppy 6 of 8 has a name -- it's MAC !

As a compromise from him being named MAX (what dad wanted) to MacBeth  (what Kailyn wanted), his name will be MAC.  Cindy sent an email to Sandy the breeder asking that she start calling him by that name.  Cindy also included a few questions included difficulties contacting members of the Hoosier Kennel Club.  Cindy also asked to schedule his pickup date.

UPDATE on Puppy Six of Eight -- Ears Cropped

We received this email this evening from Sandy at Boundary Waters Schnauzers --

"Your puppy had his ears cropped on Monday. He came through surgery just fine and is back to playing with his litter mates. Stitches will come out in 7 days and the ears will be healed in about 14 days. He can be picked up after the ears are healed and I will show you how to tape them."

Jasper's Back Home

David picked up Jasper from the vet, after Elizabeth's brief explanation of  his post operative care, things to watch for, and a quick swipe of the debit card, Jasper walked out from the back office area into the waiting room, movin' a little slow but otherwise tail a waggin' seemed in good spirits none the worse for wear.

David walked him at the vet (no interest), opened the passenger side door when Jasper jumped up to the floor board, up on the passenger seat, curled up and laid down for the short trip home.

At home, another walk attempt was tried, Jasper walked up the garage stairs into the house, walked over to his favorite seat in the living room curled up and laid down on David's leg for a nap. Jasper snoozed the majority of the evening away, and finally did his dog business at 8:00pm when Kailyn walked him again.

Jasper is moving around the house just fine, and when Cindy came home she put food and water down (Jasper showed no interest) and has since remained on his favorite chair getting dog spoiling from Cindy.
We'll put a blanket down, and crate him for the evening but we're not expecting any problems over night.

The family change has begun....

Jasper is through surgery, doing just fine.

Dr. Darren Steele called David at 12:30pm to report that Jasper's surgery went well, he was in post op recovery and was sitting up on his own.

There are no stitches, no antibiotics will be prescribed,  only a short term pain management medication.  Jasper would be ready for pickup anytime after 4:00pm today.

Darren said Jasper would probably sleep the remainder of the evening, he could be offered food and water, but may not eat until morning.   There may be minor swelling and discomfort (ya think?).  Dr. Darren suggested we monitor his activity (only brief leash walks), limited jumping, and correct Jasper if he "spends a lot of time licking back there".

"After a few days, Jasper will be back to his old self"
